SpannerSpanner has a passion for the outdoors and the self sufficiency life skills role. He joined the Army in 1968 being promoted through the ranks until his discharge in 2002 as a Major.

During that time he served all over the world including Canada, New Zealand, The Falkland Islands and Demark. However it’s in the rainforest that he really excels. Working in the jungles of Belize, Kenya, and in particular Brunei where he spent over 3 years as a jungle warfare instructor. He has spent the last 20 years teaching survival techniques to all arms of the services.

He was awarded the MBE in 1993 for his work with youngsters in Northern Ireland. His infectious enthusiasm when working with young people irrespective of their background has produced results that has left their adult supervisors astounded. He believes that to learn new life skills, there must be an element of fun and people should be prepared, through knowledge, to deal with all situations.

As the proverb for adversity says: “Misfortunes find their way on the darkest night.”
