Bushcraft Experiences For Schools and Colleges UK

If you’re looking for UK bushcraft school or college trip ideas we provide specially designed survival and bushcraft programmes to suit your educational needs. Bushcraft school trips are a fantastic way for your students to develop and learn critical life skills that they will refer back to throughout their lives. Our bushcraft school and college courses include an extensive range of activities designed to promote:

  • Team building

  • Personal development

  • Learning outside the classroom

  • New experiences

  • Better behaviour

Our bespoke bushcraft and survival courses for schools and colleges help children learn the basics of bushcraft while experiencing nature in a fun and safe environment. From shelter-building and fire lighting to wilderness cooking and orienteering, whatever the weather, your class will enjoy a unique experience that is suitable for all ages and abilities. You can bring your students to our purpose-built site in Cornwall or, as long as you have the grounds to work on, we can come to you – all courses can be tailored to meet your individual requirement and age group (7 years old and upward).

All of the Footsteps of Discovery staff hold food hygiene certificates, are first aid trained and hold ECRB’s / DBS.

About our site

The Footsteps of Discovery site is on a mixed deciduous / coniferous woodland (Nantilio Woods), approximately eight miles from Truro and a five minute drive from Mitchell, we have the facility to hold residential courses, having three large survival shelters for student accommodation (we have hosted in excess of 60 students before now) and tented accommodation for the staff.

There are two main parachute classrooms, there are also three extra a-frame classrooms that can be used at any stage with facilities to construct more if required (both parachute and a-frame classrooms).

We also have a ‘primitive tools range’ where you can learn to shoot catapults, throwing knives, throwing stars and axes amongst other things – all under the careful guidance of our trained instructors.

We have generators so in the darker times of the year we can still hold activities at night, we even have the facility to hold power point and film presentations.

On residential courses, the students will learn to handle food and cook in the outdoors under the tutelage of our qualified staff. This is normally accomplished on two large cooking fires in the main shelter area (provision for special dietary requirements can be made on request).

Facilities for hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day. We also have a kitchen area for cleaning up after breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Personal hygiene can be maintained using the onsite wash area and solar showers, whilst portaloos are ordered in for your group prior to your group’s arrival.
